God Knows Your Name
Dale Carnegie famously wrote that a man’s own name is the sweetest sound he’ll ever hear. It commands attention and builds immediate connection.
God does something deeper with a name.
The Call: “I have summoned you by name; you are mine.” (Isaiah 43:1, NIV). God doesn’t address you by your corporate title, your paycheck, or your performance as a dad. He calls you by name — the same way He told Jeremiah, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you” (Jeremiah 1:5, NIV).
The Good Shepherd: “He calls his own sheep by name…” (John 10:3, NIV). Out of a hundred sheep, the Shepherd doesn’t issue a generic group command. He calls for the individual. He knows your true worth as His image-bearer, and He is intimately acquainted with your deepest fears, anxieties, and pressures.
The Breakthrough: At the empty tomb, Mary was too blinded by grief to recognize the resurrected Lord. Jesus had the greatest announcement in human history to make, and He delivered it in a single word: “Mary.” (John 20:16, NIV). Her grief broke open, because she recognized her Savior.
The Takeaway for Busy Dads:
This isn't a promise to every man by default — it's the reality for every man who belongs to Him. And if you're not sure you do yet, that's exactly the relationship He's calling you into.
The world usually calls your name because it wants to extract something from you — bosses, clients, and endless obligations.
God calls your name because He wants a deep and personal relationship with you — Father to son. He doesn’t want performance or checked boxes. He wants your heart.
He knows you. All of you. And He calls you His own.
